Elected one of the top 10 best sandwiches of the world!
The site AOL Travel chose the Francesinha as one of 10 better sandwiches of the world, considering that this would “iguaria portuense” – trouser flavor of Oporto.
The Francesinha is a sandwich stuffed with cool sausage, ham and beef burger, cover of cheese, being later dressed with spiced gravy, considered the soul of the prescription, that has for base tomatoe and beer. The variants of the Francesinha are many (with other meats in the filling, with covered with star egg or shrimp superficially, for example), being very appreciated when followed with French fries. In this selection made from the AOL Travel, the Francesinha appears to the side of the Roujimao sandwiches, China, Smorrebrod, of the Denmark, Kati Roll, of India, Pan Bagnat, of France, Gelato Sandwich, of Italy, of the Indian (navajo) Parquet block, of the United States of America, the Chip Butty, the United kingdom and the Cemita Mexican.
AOL says that the Francesinha, deriving of the Oport, was created by a Portuguese emigrant who, when came back from France, decided to adapt the famous Monsieur Boat hook to the national culture. The Francesinha is very appreciated in Oport, having been a specialty of some local restaurants. This Oporto specialty appeared in the decade of 60, by the hands of the Portuguese Daniel Da Silva.
